A day in the life of LaNora Mangano

Today's question is ...

A Day in the Life: What do you do when you’re not writing? (Could be a little about your day job, your hobbies, taking care of family, etc)

I'm fortunate, I tell myself.

My day usually begins with me tossing and turning, and dreading the time my alarm is scheduled to go on. You know what I mean, right? That time when you wake up an hour and one half before it's set, only to try and get 3 more hours of rest within the 1.5 hours left while proceeding to wake up again every 20 minutes until the darn thing finally buzzes.

Yeah, I'm not one of those who jump out of bed and do an exaggerated yawn and stretch then smile at the sun. Nope. That's not me. I'm the one who hits the snooze 3 times before coming to terms with the fact that I'm going to be late for work.

Luckily for me, my work day begins once I swing my feet to the floor, shuffle down stairs to my office, turn on my office computer, log in, start the pot of coffee, then sit and begin working insurance claims. No one sees me, no one knows that I've yet to brush my teeth or shower which is what I do at lunch because, I've hit my snooze three times earlier and was 3 minutes late for work.

Some part of every day, during the work week, I have one to three kids at school leaving me with our Puggle (Pug and Beagle) and our cat. Both usually sleep all day and while I am doing insurance work, that's usually the time I mentally plot out my next scene or maybe my next series. Sometimes, I get so excited by the train of thought that I stop working and jot it all down so that I won't forget a moment.

By the time everyone is home, I only have a couple more hours of work left and then I can start dinner for my family and unwind from the day to really focus on writing, and answering emails, and surfing the net for research and if I'm lucky, something interesting might be on TV that I DVR'd.

Around 10:00 pm, I begin to hope that sleep hits me fast so I can reap the reward of getting a full night's sleep but it never seems to work out that way. I usually fall asleep around midnight and according to my new fit bit, I awaken approximately 16 times during the night.

I know it could be worse. I could actually be forced to get out of bed the first time my alarm goes off, and forced to jump into a nice hot shower so that my co workers won't complain that "something funky this way comes", and I could actually leave my warm house to go outside into the cold weather and drive 45 minutes to work.

So, I'm fortunate, I tell myself.

Don't forget to hop on over to my pal, Sarah Hegger's blog at http://sarahhegger.com/sarah-hegger/

to what her "day in the life of" looks like.

Thanks for stopping by.
